While I really really <3 Thanksgiving, Christmas is coming which means I need to start planning something special for my boy. With Thanksgiving mostly prepped for, the ideas have started stirring.
My main thing about Christmas is that I don't want little E to become one of those greedy present scarfing kids. Yep. I said it.
So while I don't want to impose severe limits on the grandparents or aunties, I think for my present to him I want to do something simple. My idea for this Christmas is to make him his own blocks with letters, numbers, and family pictures/names.
I found what looks like a pretty simple tutorial over here at Our Family of Four which I'm going to try out. When I finish, it should look something similar to this, although I think I want to add numbers and letters as well.
What do you think?

Those blocks are adorable! But just know that I just made nine 2x2x2 inch blocks for Baby C (just painted them colors on each side). His favorite way to play with them is for me to build him a super tall tower and then he {often violently] pushes the tower over. Within one hour I had chipped corners (and I even put several layers of hard coat mod podge). Maybe C is more aggressive than E, but just so ya know beforehand :)
ReplyDeleteI think you are amazing! I love love the idea!
ReplyDeleteVery cool!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a cool idea! My DS just had his first birthday blowout this weekend and has MORE than enough toys, so I've been trying to figure out what I should do - I think I'm going to copy you, if you don't mind!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! We're struggling with what we're going to do for the boys as well. If we didn't have about a hundred blocks already, I'd totally steal this one! ;0)
ReplyDeleteI love the blocks! And I love the idea of not spoiling a child. You are awesome! Our girls are only getting a couple toys for Christmas and their birthday (which is 3 days later). I adore those blocks though and might have to make some after the holidays :)
ReplyDeleteI love this and TOTALLY want to do it. I might go to the craft store TODAY.... And I hear you on the too many toys front. Jackson prefers an empty water bottle or Daddy's glasses as toys, anyway. :)
ReplyDeleteI am the least craft person in the world, but I really really want to make those blocks!! Maybe if I start now they will be ready for B's birthday in February!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea and would be a great idea to put alllll of Olivia's families on these blocks ;) Maybe once the holidays are over, this will be a project for me. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteI think this is an awesome idea, and I plan to steal it just like some of your other commenters! I also don't want the kids to get too many gifts, but with my mother around, that's always going to be a problem. Let us know how that goes!
