No canned tomatoes?

A friend just posted this article on FB, "The seven foods the experts won't eat." Seriously? The first item, canned tomatoes is avoided by an endocrinologist because "Studies show that the BPA in most people's body exceeds the amount that suppresses sperm production or causes chromosomal damage to the eggs of animals." Microwave popcorn is on the list too. What's sad is that I live 2.5 hours from the nearest Trad.erJoes or Whole Paycheck and the local Wally World and Commissary (the grocery store on base) have the tiniest organic section ever. Sigh. I guess I'll definitely have to move to Alaska and grow my own veggies!

  2. HA! It's funny, I was going to base my post today on that FB thing too! Yeah, trader joe's is a figment of Florida's imagination and forget whole paycheck. no one here's even heard of these places. try not to worry. europe hasn't banned BPA yet, and you know something's really bad when they ban it...i try to avoid it, but sometimes you can't. and who knows what restaurants are using...

  3. That is a scary list. I've heard that you should definitely buy organic apples because the nonorganic are so bad. I wish I would have read this list before I ate boiled potatoes tonight. :( I have a Whole Paycheck & Trad.erJoes within 3 miles of my house. I guess i better utilize them more often.

  4. I saw that article too, and I use tons of canned tomatoes in so many things I cook . . . sigh. The only place I'm routinely virtuous is in buying organic milk. It's hard to balance financial needs/limitations and trying to eat things you know are not going to harm you.

  5. Oh for crissakes. I swear the world is trying to make me completely neurotic. But thanks for the tip -- looks like I'm all organic on everything from here on in!

  6. I read that too and I looked in my pantry and realized I'm going to die, lol! Depending where you move to in Alaska, they had a better selection of stores that were not too far...I would not drive 2.5 hours.
