Comment...

This morning I got a random comment on a post I wrote a few weeks after E was born about the stank eye he gave me after his circumcision. The anonymous commenter said, "Why do you circumcise him? To make him look "patriotic" and "American"?"

I'm not sure quite how I should take this. Was this a person trying to turn the words American and patriotic into an insult? Was this person truly curious?

I must admit that my first thought was that someone was trying to insult us for this decision. If so, whoever you are, please go suck this patriotic popsicle.

If by chance, you were truly curious as to why we would do such a thing.... I grew up in a religious community in which circumcision was traditional. AND I think it's appropriate that a son match his dad. If my husband had strong feelings against it, I would have let him make that decision.

So there you go.

  1. Nice! I love the popsicle photo. I guess that commenter knows nothing about the origins of circumcision. Far far far from being a patriotic american thing to do. Just had to say jeeze!

  2. I love how this is everybody's business when it's actually a personal choice. Fercrissakes. Even a good friend of mine, who is very against it, lectured me about it and I basically told her I love her but she can shove it.

  3. sorry you had to deal with that comment. people have such strong feelings about so many of the choices people make with their kids. breastfeeding, circumcision, type of birth, working vs. staying at home...yowza...

    1. Yes, they certainly do. I'm fully of the mindset that you should do whatever you feel comfortable with which is why I was a little surprised at this comment. Thanks for the support Mo!

  6. I remember a post SIF did 2 years ago, she made a comment that if she had a boy she would circ him. All I said was, welcome to blogland one of the most CONTROVERSIAL topic there is. I checked back the next day, and holy comments!

  7. Hilarious. I love how everybody has their comments about this. I have two boys and I when deciding whether or not to circumcise I never thought about them being American... It was more like, health issues and all that.

  9. I had to laugh at this. This topic gets soooo many people all freaked out. Geeze folks.... go raise your own kids and leave everybody else alone! I love how people hide behind the "anonymous" post too when they jump into your blog to bash at you. cowards!

  10. Have said blogger visit a geriatric wing at their local hospital and then get back to you regarding your choice. I can't imagine putting my personal views onto someone else child. Honestly, she/he needs to get a life. When I went public with my choice to snip people came out of the woodwork. My favorite was the loss of sensitivity thing. Seriously like men need a more sensitive penis...haha. Then they would last one minute instead of 5....haha. All jokes aside it is your decision and people should take a hike.

  12. OMG! That is super random. I don't get people's facination with babie's penis'. Why the hell would you care?!?!? It isn't yours and has nothing to do with you. Just strange if you ask me.
